About CloudCamp:

CloudCamp is an unconference where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place where we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions. At CloudCamp, you are encouraged to share your thoughts in several open discussions, as we strive for the advancement of Cloud Computing. End users, IT professionals and vendors are all encouraged to participate.

We are very pleased to be co-locating this CloudCamp with the IPExpo'10  - http://www.ipexpo.co.uk/Cloud-Computing. Please take full advantage and come along early for the free exhibition and conference.

Lightning Talks are restricted 5 minutes each and are absent of vendor and product pitches. If a speaker strays off track or is just plain boring you, the audience, get to 'Red Card' them and send them off!

For the Unpanel we will select the panel members on the night (if you have expertise to share put yourself forward), the panel will answer questions from the floor.

Any Unpanel discussions needing further debate will be voted on to become the topics for unconference discussions at 4.45pm.

3.30 pm Introduction by Joe Baguley, Quest Software
3.40 pm Lightning Talks.

  1. Simon Baker, Software Group leader for Cloud for N Europe at IBM. "Cloudy with SaaS-Shine" - Software as a Service is how many of the cloud end users application and business function will be delivered. Everything else will underpin or be derived form SaaS. This lightening session wil quickly cover some of key considerations.
  2. Ross Conney, Commercial Director, StormMQ. "Messaging in the Cloud - Running a decentralised IT application" - Truly web-scale applications are built from many small discrete building blocks where scalability and fault tolerance are paramount. A message queue is often central to holding this together."
  3. Andy Parker, Technical Architect at ioko: "Managing demand spikes" - Celebrities tweeting links to websites, causing them to melt down under the load seconds later, is a common scaling issue these days.  Andy talks about his experience of of saving money by supplementing physical infrastructure with public clouds in order to help cope with the demands of predictable short-term loads.
  4. Luke Marsden, CTO Hybrid Logic Ltd., "Using ZFS for Cloud Storage" - ZFS is a game-changer for the  construction of powerful cloud PaaS systems.  Luke compares ZFS  to alternatives such as XFS with EBS snapshots and looks at how when combined with some clever distributed algorithms, ZFS's send and receive features form the fabric with which he is building fault-tolerant clusters for the next generation of shared web hosting and scalable storage in the cloud.
